Private Child and Adolescent ADHD assessments and treatments.

We provide comprehensive private ADHD assessments for children and young people up to their 18th birthday. We provide face-to-face assessments, however we can, offer the flexibility and convenience of on-line appointments if required and clinically appropriate. Our appointments are available during the daytime, evenings, and weekends, ensuring you can find a suitable time that works best for you and your child.

Our assessments are supported by evidence-based, diagnostic tools and will usually involve input from the child, parents or guardians and teachers. This collaborative approach supports an in-depth and objective understanding of how your child's ADHD symptoms may have impacted them throughout their life.

At the point of assessment, you and your child will meet with one of our Specialist Psychiatrists. The psychiatrist, along with our team of experienced Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Practitioners, will conduct a detailed evaluation of your child's presenting symptoms, the development of these symptoms over time, their medical history, developmental history, family and social history. Our team of experienced CAMHS, ADHD professionals aim to work with the individual needs of your child to help them feel comfortable at each stage of our assessment process.

We will inform you at the final assessment consultation whether your child meets the criteria for diagnosis for ADHD. The psychiatrist will explain this in detail, including possible treatment options if a diagnosis is confirmed. If a diagnosis is not confirmed the psychiatrist will explain other possible rationale for the presenting symptoms. If clinically indicated, we will advise on further appropriate assessments and will endeavour to signpost you to the most helpful team of professionals.

If your child receives a diagnosis, the team at Beyond Clinics will work with you and your child to create an individualised treatment plan. This might include medication therapy, psychological interventions, family support or lifestyle changes. We will provide you with a comprehensive report explaining their diagnosis as well as a letter recommending reasonable adjustments in school or college. We will take time to understand the needs of your child and your family, ensuring that you receive the best possible treatment and support to enable them to thrive with ADHD.

Weā€™ve walked in your shoes.

Beyond Clinics was founded by a team of people who have been diagnosed with ADHD. We know exactly the kind of service and support we wish we had received. So now, itā€™s our turn to provide the service that we believe everyone deserves. With us, itā€™s not just about the diagnosis; itā€™s about giving you a clear path forward. We donā€™t just diagnose your ADHD, we understand it.

Our assessment process is second to none.

Through our own individual experiences, we found that the assessment process offered by the majority was lacking: it wasn't comprehensive or robust enough, and we didn't feel enough time was spent on each person. Thatā€™s why we offer services that other ADHD clinics donā€™t, throughout our entire process.

Full support following diagnosis.

Our psychiatrists are keen to advise on adjustments for school, work, or university to help their patients to excel whatever their stage of life. As well as regular contact from a specialist mental health nursing team, we also take away the monthly stress of locating your medication by managing your prescription and delivering it to your door before you run out.

Understanding
Childhood ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects children of all ages.

There are 3 distinct categories of ADHD type, specifically, ADHD Inattentive type, ADHD hyperactive/impulsive type and ADHD combined type.

Each ADHD type can come with a unique set of challenges:

Inattentive type

Children and young people with ADHD inattentive type may struggle to maintain focus and concentration. They may have difficulty following instructions, organising tasks, or paying attention to details. It may seem like they are daydreaming or not listening when spoken to. They may report ā€˜zoning outā€™ in class or during conversations ā†’

Hyperactive/Impulsive type

Children with ADHD hyperactive/impulsive type can exhibit high levels of physical restlessness and may find it challenging to stay seated or keep quiet when required. They may talk excessively and be known as a chatterbox, interrupting conversations, or imposing on others' activities without understanding social boundaries. ā†’

Combined type

Having ADHD combined type as the name suggests presents with a combination of symptoms from both inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive types. Children with this form of ADHD may display a range of challenges that encompass inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. ā†’

The examples highlighted above could relate to all children at some point in their lives. It is important when considering ADHD to consider expectations of normal childhood development.

For each type of diagnosis therefore, the presenting symptoms are expected to be more pronounced than you would expect for a child of the same age. It is also expected that a child with ADHD would experience difficulties across various settings, ranging across family life, school or college, social environments and hobbies for example.

We recognize the impact that childhood ADHD can have on the child's overall well-being and confidence as well as the challenges posed for both child and family. Our team of child and adolescent mental health professionals are on hand to support you and your family from initial contact, throughout the assessment, and where required through to a personalised treatment plan to support your child to thrive and reach their full potential.

If you suspect your child may have ADHD, don't hesitate to reach out to us for guidance and assistance. Together, we can make a positive difference in your child's life.

We understand that undiagnosed and untreated ADHD can bring some tough challenges for children and young people, both at home, in school and in their peer relationships. We also recognise the struggles of parents and families. We are a holistic service, offering a range of support to you, your child and your family needs.

Research evidence has shown that assessing and diagnosing ADHD earlier in life can make a significant difference. Early intervention can increase a childā€™s opportunity to understand themselves better,to develop coping skills and learn strategies to manage symptoms of ADHD. This can significantly increase their resilience as they mature into young adults and beyond. We work together with your child and you to provide the right support and understanding, to enable your child to thrive and shine in the way they should.
