Some children may show signs of ADHD, Others show signs of Autism. Many show elements of both, boys and girls can present and show signs in very different ways. When traits overlap, it's important to understand the whole picture, not just one part of it.
How the Child AuDHD Assessment Works
You may notice difficulties with focus, impulsivity or emotional regulation alongside sensory sensitivities, social communication differences or challenges adapting to change, School, friendship issues. Our Child AuDHD Assessment provides a joined-up, structured evaluation of both ADHD and Autism within one pathway, giving you, your child or your family clear answers and a practical plan for home, school and life in general.
Developmental History, Screening & QbCheck
We begin with comprehensive background information to understand presentation across multiple environments.
This may include:
- Detailed developmental history
- ADHD screening tools
- Autism screening questionnaires
- Parent/carer input
- School forms and school input where appropriate
- QbCheck (age-appropriate objective assessment)
- Clinical review and confirmation of next steps
Screening informs the pathway but does not provide a diagnosis.
ADHD Diagnostic Evaluation
DIVA-5 Interview (1.5 hours, online with parents/carers)
Structured exploration of ADHD symptoms across home and school.
CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist Appointment (online* or face-to-face)
The CAMHS Psychiatrist will have reviewed the QB and DIVA5 findings. Alongside all of the information you have provided and discussed, they will explain the results and outcomes and conduct an evaluation, alongside assessing for co-existing conditions. At this assessment the Dr will confirm whether ADHD diagnostic criteria has been met for your child, they will discuss options for treatment and where relevant and appropriate discuss medication options.
*It is best practice to assess children in person, especially young children. Of course if an online assessment is agreed and more comfortable for your child we can accommodate.
The CAMHS Consultant:
- Reviews QbCheck and DIVA-5 findings
- Conducts full psychiatric evaluation
- Assesses for comorbidities
- Confirms whether ADHD criteria are met
- Discusses medication options if appropriate
Autism Diagnostic Evaluation
ADI-R Informed Parent Interview
The ADI-R interview usually takes around 2 hours with you and/or your child, this is conducted by our Clinical Psychologist, and although preferred in person, can be conducted online if you or your child prefer. Exploring such things as developmental history, social communication patterns, sensory profile, routines and masking.
ADOS-2 Structured Observation
The ADOS-2 observation usually takes around 1.5/2 hours, this is conducted in person at our clinics in Alderley Edge or Warrington. Completed by an ADOS-2 trained Occupational Therapist, allowing structured real-time observation of communication and interaction. Where appropriate (16+), camouflage measures may be included.
Multidisciplinary Team Review
All of the assessment outcomes and information is reviewed by our MDT team, Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Nurse
